The Limits of Raw Decentralisation
Hoskinson warns that early blockchains made a critical mistake: they believed that once a system was decentralised, it would automatically remain stable.
“You can’t just throw the rules out and expect the system to run itself.” (18:11)
The problem, he explains, is immutability without structure. When a system has no mechanisms for upgrades, dispute resolution, or error correction, one bad contract or governance failure becomes permanent.
This is how hacks become unrecoverable, protocol decisions get stuck, and ecosystems struggle to adapt.
Governance Is the Missing Infrastructure
Instead of weakening decentralisation, governance — when built correctly — strengthens it.
Hoskinson highlights the need for:
